Oncolytic viruses are harmless viral strains targeting cancerous cells instead of normal healthy tissue. To shrink or eliminate tumours, oncolytic viruses are screened, chosen, and modified depending on their natural ability to attack cancer cells while sparing normal cells. Netta, a mother of two, was the first patient in the world to be cured from a highly aggressive type of glioma by combining oncolytic viruses and immunotherapy. She was initially diagnosed in 2010 with anaplastic astrocytoma.
